and a long history of the Center, to study about urban design it self
will not be enough without studying about some other background that
happened along the way of this Classic Complex Modification

| Management of the Center | ||
| The architects always have the vision on how to "build" the facility to be successful. They hardly know what will happen afterwards. Basically they rarely concern about it. Rockefeller group was one of the best in town about the maintenance of the facility to be clean and in order. A lot of major upgraded and up lifting projects have been programming and proceeding through 65 years of the center's history. Therefore in terms of architecture design, the center's look is always in good condition. The sense of perfect in terms of detail especially on what is related to human scale was always concerned by the Rockefeller Group. | ||
| However, another issue which is very important and must give the credit to the Rockefeller group is the idea on the seasonal events. Rockefeller Center has always been the place for the great and famous outdoor events throughout the whole year. The world has known Rockefeller Center by the X'mas tree and the ice skating rink. However, it is also the place for showing outdoor arts, concerts, exhibitions etc. There are always new things coming up regularly. It is not only attracting the tourists with the same thing all the time like other tourist spots; but it also attract the local people with the excitement of new events every 2-3 months. And if they do not have any events coming up, the center always have their own way to change the type of plants, flowers, flags etc. to create the strength of the space. The architects can only give the owner a start. After that,methods of how to run the place depends totally on the owners. Therefore, the success of Rockefeller Center did not come from only the vision of the architects but also from the vision and hard working of its owner. | ||
| Rainbow Room and The Elimination of the Deck Observatory | ||
| Eventhough the center always provides the benefit to the public, the center's decision to close its Observatory on the top of 30 Rockefeller Center was considered a wrong decision. It was closed down to provide more space for its Rainbow Room and Rainbow Grill Restaurant/ Lounge Complex. The multi-level observatory was the best in the city. Most architecture critics were too busy raving about the refurbished Rainbow Room to notice the loss. Patrons of the restaurants have views but they are constrained and in no way comparable to the unrestricted vistas that the observatory used to offered. | ||
